A black screen and endless loading can happen for different reasons, so instead of reinstalling Instagram, try the fixes below one by one. Start with the simple ones and move to the advanced fixes if the problem continues.
Clear the App’s Cache (Android) or Offload It (iPhone)
Instagram stores some temporary files while you use the app. If these files cause problems, clearing them can help.

Open Instagram, tap your profile picture, then tap the three-line menu and go to Settings and privacy. Find Data usage and media quality and turn Data Saver off.
Now open a few Reels and check whether they load normally.
Check Your Internet Connection
A strong Wi-Fi signal does not always mean the connection is stable enough for video streaming. If Reels are not loading, check whether the problem is related to your network.
Try these quick checks:
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- If the problem only happens on Wi-Fi, restart your router.
- Temporarily turn off any VPN and test Instagram again.
- Open another video-based app or website to see if videos load normally.
If videos are also having trouble loading in other apps, it points more toward a problem with your internet connection, so you’ll need to fix the connection first.

Restart Your Phone
Restarting your phone can fix small system or software issues, and it can also clear errors running in the background.
Restart your phone, then open Instagram and test a few Reels. If the issue was caused by a temporary system or app process, it should be fixed. If Instagram Reels are working normally again, you don’t need to change any settings.
Check Your Phone’s Date and Time
Most modern phones automatically adjust the date and time. However, if you have an older phone that does not adjust them automatically, check the date and time once.
Android: Go to Settings → System → Date & time and turn on Set time automatically.
If the date or time is incorrect, correct it. Then reopen Instagram and check Reels again. If the date and time are already correct, you do not need to change any other settings.
Update Instagram
If your Instagram app is outdated, it can sometimes cause problems with new features and video content.
Open the Google Play Store on Android and search for Instagram. If an update is available, tap Update and let it finish. After that, open Instagram and use the app normally.
Turn Off Battery or Power Saving Mode
Battery-saving settings can limit app performance. If Super Power Saving Mode is turned on on your phone, turn it off temporarily.
Android: Go to Settings → Battery → Super Power Saving Mode and turn it off.
If turning it off fixes the problem, you can keep it off while using the app.
Free Up Storage Space
When there is very little free space on your phone, some apps may not work smoothly because they need storage for temporary files.
Go to Settings → Storage and see how much space is left. If only a small storage is available, delete unwanted files, old videos, photos, or apps that you no longer use.
Keeping some extra space available can help your phone and apps run more smoothly.
When the Problem Isn’t Your Phone at All
Sometimes Instagram can have a server-side problem that affects many users at the same time. When this happens, changing settings or clearing the cache on your phone will not solve the problem from your side.
If you have tried the fixes above and nothing has worked, the issue may be on Instagram’s side.
